On December 4th, we went to see an exhibition of the sculptures. In the afternoon, we went in our P.E. groups to take a taxi to Nanjing University and met at the gate of the exhibition at 12:50 pm. The exhibition was called The Creating of Spirit made by Wu weishan, a famous artist who was honored with the Pangolin Prize. I think we choose the exhibition because we young people like the contemporary artworks. Also the some of the sculptures were excellent, fashion and modern.

My favorite artwork is Sleeping baby. It is made by Wu Weishan. Also, it is a small bronze elliptical head made of bronze. The subject of the artwork is the head of a lovely baby when he is sleeping. I can see a baby’s head. He is opening his small mouth and sleeping.

When I look at the baby’s lovely face, it makes me feel quiet and peaceful. It makes me think about how pure the baby is. It is just like an angle sleeping in my arms. Also, the artwork reminds me of my hometown---Suzhou. It is a very quiet city and famous for the Suzhou Gardens. There is a long river across the city. However, I study and live in Nanjing, so I return to my hometown once a year. Its beauty often appears in my dream. When I am dreaming about my hometown, I may like this lovely baby. Also, it looks like my little brother. He is also very lovely and clever, and when he is sleeping I think that his face is one of the most beautiful things in the world. This artwork shows his face to me. I think the artist’ intention is to tell people how lovely the baby looks like when he is sleeping, and show people the original beauty of humans.

I like this artwork. It is very quiet and peaceful. Also, it is such a lovable baby that I even want to use my fingers to touch baby’s skin. It doesn’t show the baby’s face very clearly. However, the vague face still tells us how lovely the baby looks like when he is sleeping vividly. I think it is the most magic point that makes me like this artwork. It may be the biggest difference between Chinese and Western art styles. Sometimes, we only need to focus on some of the most important point of the subject, and show people. When I first saw this sleeping baby, I even didn’t realize it is a baby’s face. However, I will find the “truth” later. It was so magical that I like this artwork very much. I think other people might appreciate this artwork because the baby is so cute that I believe people who have seen the artwork will be attracted by the vivid baby’ face. It is so peaceful that I even can hear the sound of breathing.

I like this artwork. The sleeping baby is so lovely and alive that i think it was really wonderful. It makes me feel quiet and peaceful. Also I think if other people go to the exhibition,i will recommend this lovely Sleeping Beauty and i believe they will enjoy it.

Dinner with grade 12 mentors

On the evening of December 20th, 2008, I went to have dinner with my classmates. We also invited some students from Grade 12. We went to Tacos, a famous Mexican restaurant; on Zhujiang Road. At about 17:40, most of us met together at the restaurant. We choose Tacos because we think there is lots of food from different countries all over the world.

Then, the waitress gave me a bottle of water politely. She gave me the menu and asked us what I would like to order. When I read the menu, it says that there is a kind of rice in a Mexican style they recommended and I ordered it. When I was waiting for the rice, I chatted with my friends. Then I enjoyed this delicious rice. I liked the rice. It was in a Mexican style and totally different from the Chinese traditional rice food. The flavor is new and creative. The environment was very good here. It was clean and not very crowed. However, the cigarette was allowed, some people were smoking when we were having dinner, so the air was not very fresh here. I enjoyed the service here and I think the waitresses were very polite and kind. I think I will recommend Tacos to my friends and take them there. Next time I may try other different food.
